Dear friends, we continue to review yoga books for you. Today, we have an excerpt from a book about the great yogi, ‘Lahiri Mahasay. The polestar of Kriya’.

“Mahamuni Babaji used to refer to all these techniques with one word ‘Kriya’, while Yogiraj Shyam Charan Lahiri Mahasay ranged them as separate varieties of Kriya. Together he called them ‘Kriya Yoga’.

We have named them ‘Kriya-bijnan (science)’ as they constitute a scientific approach to how to attain Truth, the Higher Self, based on the psycho-physical plane. Rather than philosophy or religion in the traditional sense, it is a science, merely because Kriya does not involve hypothetical reasoning about Truth and does not require belief in God or other religious beliefs. Practising Kriya yoga advances individual consciousness towards Infinite Consciousness by eliminating the negative aspect of individual consciousness (the intellect, or ego).”
