How do affirmations work?
Self-development
24 July 2024
Affirmations are concise statements, often referred to as “thought forms” or “pass words,” that, when repeated, can reprogramme the subconscious mind. This method provides a way to reach and influence the subconscious. Positive affirmations impact the brain and our entire structure at the DNA level, offering a powerful opportunity for personal transformation in the way you envisage.
In my view, affirmations elevate individuals.
It’s crucial to grasp how these phrases, by embedding themselves in the subconscious, can shape our destiny, given that it is the subconscious mind that largely governs our lives. There is a saying: “Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.” For instance, in striving to achieve certain desires, you might begin repeating specific affirmations. However, if your circumstances or understanding change as these desires start to manifest, the energetic processes you’ve set in motion will continue until the desire is fulfilled. This conflict can result in certain subconscious programmes being blocked. This is why it’s important to choose affirmations thoughtfully and carefully.
How to choose affirmation for yourself
For affirmations to be effective, they must be precisely tailored to your needs. When crafting affirmations, it is important to use the present tense and phrase them as if your desire has already been fulfilled.
It’s important that your intentions come from your heart. You should sincerely believe that what you affirm is possible and feel it deeply within yourself rather than merely repeating words mechanically. If you say one thing but feel another, it’s the feeling that will prevail, not the words. For example, I feel fearlessness right now because I am fearless. This is what you affirm and feel in every part of your being. The affirmation should resonate within you invoking a profound agreement with what you are stating. If the affirmation feels uncomfortable or meaningless, it’s likely not something you truly need.
It seems unwise to embed phrases like “I want a lot of money” or “I have a lot of money” into the subconscious. Instead, it’s better to focus on becoming a successful person by cultivating qualities such as willpower, knowledge, wisdom, and fearlessness. The desired outcomes will naturally follow. We must awaken the qualities that have been given to us from on high.
Choose affirmations that align with your true needs.
If you want to embed something in your subconscious, the initial word when crafting an affirmation must be “together,”followed by your desire, which is a pass word, and sealed with “now.” This structure is vital.
- If you feel anxious or fearful and want to quiet your self-talk, use the word “close.” You should pronounce the phrase: “together close now.”
- If you need to reject or end something, use the words “end” or “finish”: “together finish now.”
- To become a winner, use phrases “together fight now” or “together victory now.”
- Consider using the word “done” to develop willpower and get the job done.
- The word “be” will help you preserve health and overcome loneliness: “together be now.”
- For dealing with illness or anxiety, the word “change” can be powerful.
- The word “protect” will guard you from danger.
- To foster gratitude and release resentment, repeat phrases like “thank you” and “I am grateful.”
There’s a film titled “Formula of Love.” It would seem that love transcend formulas. This experience goes beyond any form. Yet, to reach this understanding, a kind of formula can be helpful, particularly for those who struggle to love themselves. For instance, you might tell yourself every morning and evening, “I accept myself as I am right now.” This mindset and inner state of acceptance are where spiritual practice begins.
When and how to recite affirmations
It’s crucial that your affirmations resonate deeply within your consciousness. Sometimes, the subconscious can create internal blocks. For example, when you say “I want,” your subconscious mind might say “I don’t want.”
If you reiterate affirmations in a “beta” state, which is an ordinary state, when beta rhythms prevail in the brain, your mind, as well as your personality, will resist. I could affirm, “I am strong,” but my personality counters it with doubts,”Strong? Oh c’mon, you can’t even stand up for yourself.” I could affirm, “I am rich,” but my mind resists, “Rich, you say? You have hardly enough to keep body and soul together!” This is an ongoing struggle. For every plus there is always a minus. It’s important to adopt an optimistic perspective and find the positive in everything.
For affirmations to resonate deeply within our consciousness, it’s best to use them when the brain transitions to other frequencies, entering the alpha state or deeper. Therefore, it’s advisable to reiterate affirmations during or just after waking up or while falling asleep.
For optimal results, I recommend recording your affirmations and listening to them through headphones during the deeper phases of sleep or the transitional stage between wakefulness and sleep. This borderline state provides an excellent opportunity to reprogramme the subconscious mind. Even when you lapse into sleep, your superconscious and unconscious minds continue to absorb the messages. You begin to feel a shift from within, marking a significant stage in your life. However, always pay close attention to the content of your affirmations and choose your words with care.
